We’ve put together a round-up of virtual and in-person Earth Day celebrations for 2021 to help kick-start your Earth Day 2021 plans. EarthX: Earth Day Reimagined
EarthX, based in Dallas, went all-virtual last year with films, speakers, and online round table discussions. While we all miss the annual Fair Park event (Tiny house neighborhood! Electric bike riding! Virtual reality demos! Food trucks! So much hemp!), it looks like we’ll have to wait another year. This year, EarthX offers celebrants a hybrid of virtual and in-person events around town. Here are a few highlights:
EarthxFilm – Earthx Film is a 10-day film festival that includes virtual screenings on EarthxFilm.org PLUS drive-ins at The Cedars and outdoor screenings at Dallas Victory Park! Spots are limited so register for your free tickets in advance at EarthxFilm.org. Festival highlights include the world premiere of Clark Johnson’s Percy vs Goliath, a true-life story that tells of a farmer taking on a multi-national corporation over the impact of GMOs on his livelihood. Additional film highlights will include an evening of Texas-focused films featuring EarthxFilm alum Ben Masters’ American Ocelot and Nicol Ragland’s Trans Pecos.
More about the film festival from Earthxfilm.org:
This year the EarthxFilm Festival continues its mission to showcase Films and Emerging Media that Explore Science, Conservation, Climate Change, and the Environment while honoring the heroes working to protect our planet. EarthxFilm aims to turn awareness into action through education, art, and media.
Earth Day Celebration – Head to Klyde Warren Park for a special Earth Day celebration on April 22 from 6pm to 10pm. Enjoy live music by RC & The Gritz and an outdoor screening of Percy vs Goliath, starring Christopher Walken, Zach Braff and Christina Ricci. Plus, you can explore EarthXR’s virtual and augmented reality experiences, arts and crafts, and in-person panel discussions with filmmakers from this year’s EarthX film festival!
EarthX Online Screenings & Resources – Short films, talks, documentaries and resources abound at earthx.org. EarthxTV hosts an extensive lineup of original shows during Earth Week 2021, April 19-25. Don’t miss: Earth Day Xpeditions, “Environmental Lessons to Celebrate Earth Day.” This collection of lessons and videos from EarthX’s partner organizations are organized by grade level, and include a video, student activity and discussion guide, vocabulary list, overview of the lesson, and even the education standards met by the lesson. Though geared specifically for educators, anyone can register and view the videos and resources. After all, “anyone who keeps learning stays young!” (attributed to Henry Ford)
