In the wee hours of the morning this morning, May 6, you may have seen the following message on Facebook from @NorthTexasGivingDay:
“WOW. North Texas, we are floored by your generosity. THANK YOU for your incredible support of nonprofits and communities who have been impacted by COVID-19. Today, we have proven that this pandemic can’t cancel community, or generosity, or kindness!”

On North Texas Giving Tuesday Now and for COVID-19 relief efforts, a total of $20,760,815 were raised, from a total of 89,963 donations to 2,572 organizations. Additionally, over 297,000 volunteer hours were pledged.

As Dave Scullin, president and CEO of the Communities Foundation of Texas, was quoted in The Dallas Morning News, “We continue to be blown away by this uniquely philanthropic and heartfelt community. Seeing the nearly 45,000 donors and volunteers come together at a distance for North Texas Giving Tuesday Now underscores our incredible local bond in support of each other through our critical nonprofit sector.”

At the end of North Texas Giving Tuesday Now, the North Texas Food Bank topped the leaderboards with highest amount of donations received, at $1,760,212. The next highest was Methodist Health System Foundation with $421,308 raised. In an enormous heartfelt gesture to those impacted all over the metroplex by the COVID-19 pandemic, over 11,300 gifts were made by donors to North Texas Cares, a collaborative of organizations that work with people and communities who may be most negatively affected by COVID-19. That’s a lot of love! The North Texas Cares fund works to grant emergency funding needs addressing issues like food insecurity, lack of access to healthcare, lost wages, housing costs, vulnerable populations such as seniors and those experiencing homelessness, and academic and distance learning support for low-income and low-access students.

What an amazing day for North Texas nonprofits. Communities Foundation of Texas’ North Texas Giving Day, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, and the Dallas Cowboys joined together to bring an extra measure of support for those who need help the most, and North Texans responded with generosity and care.
